Son nom, emprunté au dieu romain de la guerre, lui vient de sa première fonction : c'était un champ d’exercice pour les cadets de l’Ecole militaire. Aujourd'hui, c'est un lieu de rassemblement pour les touristes et les Parisiens, à l'ombre de la Tour Eiffel.

The Champ de Mars is a large public greenspace in Paris, France, located in the seventh arrondissement, between the Eiffel Tower to the northwest and the École Militaire to the southeast.
