Detmold (plattdeutsch Deppelt) ist eine Stadt in Ostwestfalen-Lippe. Die Stadt erstreckt sich über eine Fläche von 129,39 km². Detmold wurde 783 als Theotmalli erstmals erwähnt, der Name leitet sich von der althochdeutschen- altsächsischen Bezeichnung einer Volkgerichtsstätte (Thing) ab.

Detmold is a city in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, with a population of 74,438. It was the capital of the small Principality of Lippe from 1468 until 1918 and then of the Free State of Lippe until 1947.
