The Waves is a 1931 novel by English novelist Virginia Woolf. It is critically regarded as the culmination of her experimental lyric technique, consisting of ambiguous and cryptic soliloquies spoken by six characters: Bernard, Susan, Rhoda, Neville, Jinny and Louis.
